EAST SAN  FERNANDO VALLEY MTAC

MARCH 2013 NEWSLETTER

Happy forthcoming Spring to all of our members at the ESFV MTAC.  Below you will find the Minutes of the February25th meeting including important dates for all of our upcoming branch events.
Our last meeting was hosted yet again by Kim O’Reilly, who not only provided her beautiful home but also gave a fantastic lecture/performance on some very famous pieces written for the left hand, along with handouts about the pieces and their composers.  She also performed excerpts, and all in all it was an informative and highly enjoyable presentation for our branch members, so thank you so much Kim for making an otherwise routine board meeting into a musical, memorable event.
As usual, please contact me if you would like me to announce any upcoming events.
We want to wish all our wonderful CM students the best of luck in the weeks ahead.

All my best,
Arjang Hedayati
Recording Secretary

ANNOUNCEMENTS
First and foremost, we want to mention that the Benefit concert was a huge success!  We had a full audience, great performances, and raised $1500!  Thanks to all the performers, and all who helped preparing and closing the event, especially our president Dilara Khalilova and Dr. Paul Pitman who is
of course our liaison to the beautiful First Presbyterian Church of Encino.  Without the two of them this event could simply not have taken place.

Secondly, we wish to thank and congratulate Ed Grossman for an absolutely perfect job organizing and running the Classical and Romantic festival.  Thank you Ed for all of your work!

MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 25th MEETING

In Attendance: DilaraKhalilova, Laura Halladay, Mark Richman, Arjang Hedayati, Aziza Syed, Rita Hovanesian, Janet Harms, Gillian Smith, Roger Eshleman, Araksia Nazlikian, Zhanna Gyulnazarova, Anahit Sevoyan, Paul Pitman, Ed Grossman and Kim O’Reilly.

 10:15  Meeting Commenced.
Dilara Khalilova reminded us that our branch fees will be increasing by $5 for a total of $30 per member. Members 70y.o. and over will owe half of that ($15), and 80 and over are free.

10:20  LA Valley College has informed Dilara that they mistakenly booked an event on March 10th, during the Strings and Woodwinds CM exams.  The Woodwinds CM will remain on the 10th at LAVC, while the Strings remained on the 10th but were moved to the Virtuoso Russian Music Academy in Northridge.
Rita Hovanesian recommended that we look into becoming an affiliated member of LAVC to avoid such mishaps in the future.

10:25  Laura Halladay’s student has a Bat Mitzvah and needs to move the date of her theory exam.  Because of the extraordinary circumstances of this once in a life time event, Dilara has arranged for him to take the exam during the piano CM on the following weekend.  This is not to become a precedent but is indeed an exception.

10:30  Dilara Khalilova announced her retirement come June 2013 as well as the retirement of other members, including: Kim O’Reilly, Anahit Sevoyan, and Zhanna Gyulnazarova.
Kim, Mark and Roger will lead the nominating committee.

10:40  Discussion on doing a better job organizing the Benefit Concert so that the workload is handed out more evenly.  Rita suggested getting a chairperson for the event.  Much too much work fell on the backs of Dilara and Paul this year.

10:47  Ed Grossman reviewed the Romantic and Classical festival:  we made a little money, it went well, and the judging was excellent. 13 entrants, including 4 violinists participated in the event.  At the next planning meeting, we will discuss whether this event should become competitive, and if we should at the least hand out ribbons or certificates, as in the Bach Festival.

 11:00 Meeting adjourned.

*Please check our website at mtacsfev.org for any branch information.

Wishing all of you joyous Spring Holidays!
