MTAC SFEV BRANCH NEWSLETTER – March 2019

Subject: Finances Meeting Bullet Points
From: Nicole Nale (nicolenaleclassical@gmail.com)
Date: March 3, 2019

Dear Teachers,My notes were scattered around my notebook from our meeting a few weeks back, therefore I have listed them as bullet points rather than in chronologically ordered items.

  • Those present went through the finances handout (attached), which has 2017, 2018 and 2019 thus far. *CM breakdown was added after the meeting, but is now included on report. The original handout only had the recitals, festivals and competitions as CM totals for the current year were still being worked on.*
  • 2 main items in discussion: Fees and Venues
  • Fees: -General Recitals- voted on to move up to $20 for solo and $25 per student in duet groups, contingent on the event being held at LA Valley College. If event is held at a different location that does not charge us, or is significantly less, the previous fees are applied. -Scholarship Competition- voted on to move up to $30 participation fee as the cost of the judges and the Winners Concert costs need to be covered also. Along these lines, there was discussion about possible alternative awards in the future for winners of the Scholarship Competition, rather than a monetary prize. Some ideas were tickets to the LA Phil or other Symphony Orchestra Events.
  • Venues: -LAVC will be booked for most events, so at least if nothing else goes through we will have a venue, however, we would like to have some more options as a branch. -Position of Venue Coordinator suggested- this individual could call various churches, banquet halls, schools etc to see what is available to our organization as well as check out the quality of the piano and what fees/procedures/parking would be involved. -First Lutheran Church of Van Nuys, LifeHouse Church (Northridge), Van Nuys Middle School all brought up as potential alternatives. *If anyone has other ideas, please email me ASAP.*

On a separate note, we had to cancel our Classical/Romantic Festival on the day of with a full audience and seated judges. I want to thank Nobuyo for all of her incredibly hard work putting the event together and to all of the other participating teachers who prepared an undoubtedly wonderful program with their students. There is a silver lining though! After discussing the mishap with LAVC, they have offered our branch two events free of charge to be held in the recital hall.

Please email me with any further questions. Also, as CM is almost here, please reach out to me if you need any extra assistance!

Sincerely,

Nicole Nale
